Day 06 - Fair Trade.

Day 06 - If you could trade places with anyone, who would it be?

Let me tell you. It is pret-ty difficult to choose only one person to trade places with out of any person that has ever lived. The more I think about who I would trade places with, the more thoughts flood my head. Another person who died at a young age. Another person who lived through war. Another person that faced so much affliction. The reality of it is, we all have trials in our lives. We all face affliction and it's for our good. To help us progress.

With that said, Katie chose Mother Teresa.

Mother Teresa lived a long life and died when she was eighty-seven, but she grew up with war all around her. For over 45 years, Mother Teresa ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying, while guiding her Missionaries of Charity's expansion, first throughout India and then in other countries. Mother Teresa made a huge difference as she constantly reached out to help people. By the 1970s, Mother Teresa was internationally famed as a humanitarian and advocate for the poor and helpless. Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity continued to expand and at the time of her death, it was operating 610 missions in 123 countries, including hospices and homes for people with HIV and AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis, soup kitchens, children and families, counseling programs, orphanages, and schools. Facing much criticism, Mother Teresa never wavered and is now known and honored all over the world.

"I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples." -Mother Teresa

It doesn't surprise me at all that Katie would choose someone who has helped so many. Katie has a huge heart. I'm glad she reserves a little spot in there for me. Before we came to Boise, Katie ran after-school programs for teenagers in San Diego to keep them off of the streets. Katie is also the President of the Invisible Children's Club at Boise State University and does everything in her power to help the Invisible Children in Africa and anyone else that needs it.

I, on the other hand, chose "Bear" Edward Michael Grylls.

Every year the death toll on Mount Everest rises, and for every ten mountaineers who make it to the top, one will die.

This guy climbed Mount Everest when he was twenty-three, just eighteen months after he broke his back in three places during a parachuting accident. And he's still alive. Might explain why he was nicknamed Bear. Dude's a beast! Bear Grylls has always loved adventure. Most of us know him from his popular television show, Man vs. Wild.

Bear has been a Global Angels Ambassador since 2006 and has raised over one million dollars for children in Africa though his adventures, for Global Angels projects in Africa. The funds have provided safe drinking water for over 120,000 people in Mozambique and Kenya, a secondary school in the Masai Mara for over 300 teenagers who never had the chance, a school for over 700 kids in Uganda, and another school in Sierra Leone, a village refuge for over 120 teenagers and children rescued from the LRA Guerrillas in Uganda, a community village for over 100 street kids and orphans in Sierra Leone, mosquito nets for 12,000 mothers and young children to protect them from malaria, hospital clinics and so much more.

“I’m a passionate believer in Global Angels as one of the most effective ways of reaching the world’s most needy children. They were the beneficiary of my epic Everest attempt in 2007 by powered para-glider, sponsored by GKN where we raised one million dollars to provide safe water, food and education for vulnerable children in Africa.” -Bear Grylls

Even a guy with the name Bear can make a difference. The guy is so cool!
